Recently, Erin and Luke brought their sweet daughter, Kara, to the Novel Images studio to celebrate her first birthday. Kara was right in that classic one-year-old stage — crawling everywhere, starting to explore her independence, and always on the move. Every time we gently set her down for photos, she’d take off again like it was a game. Her giggles, expressions, and bright smile made the session both fun and unforgettable.
We photographed Kara in three different outfits to create a full and meaningful gallery. The first look featured a deeper rose-toned outfit paired with family photos, giving the images a warm and timeless feel. For her second outfit, Kara wore an adorable brown tulle dress. Erin brought along a green ladder, florals, and Kara’s little bunny, which added the sweetest personal touches. One of the highlights of the session was capturing Kara trying to kiss her bunny — those natural moments always end up being favorites.
For her final look, Kara wore a party dress with “ONE” on it, and the studio was transformed into a first birthday celebration. Erin and Luke brought balloons, a number one balloon, and a banner for the background, all of which tied together beautifully. The cake smash followed, with Erin making the cake herself. We placed it on a cake stand from the studio and let Kara explore. The expressions she made were priceless — curious, excited, and a few unsure “this is very sweet” faces that had everyone laughing. These candid reactions are exactly what make cake smash sessions so special.
